Regional Alternative Program (RAP)
The Regional Alternative Program (RAP) offers students a fresh start through a supportive and flexible educational environment designed to meet individual needs. Our program provides meaningful opportunities for academic achievement, personal growth, and skill development, helping students build the foundation for long-term success. By focusing on individualized support, goal-setting, and guidance, RAP empowers students to overcome challenges, reach their full potential, and prepare for a bright future both in school and beyond.
Students in grades 6 through 12 who are suspension-eligible or expulsion-eligible from public school districts in Carroll, Jo Daviess, and Stephenson Counties may be referred to RAP.
School Referral: Students must be referred to RAP by their school district.
Intake Scheduling: RAP staff will reach out to the student’s parent(s) or guardian to schedule an Intake Interview.
Intake Participation: Both the student and their parent(s)/guardian are required to participate in the Intake Interview to review program rules, expectations, and next steps.
Individualized Alternative Education Plan (AEP): Each student has an AEP outlining academic, behavioral, and attendance goals, as well as the timeframe for their placement at RAP.
Computer-Based Learning: Curriculum is aligned with Common Core State Standards to ensure academic rigor.
Small Group Instruction: Certified teaching staff provide targeted, direct instruction in small groups.
Counseling Support: Students participate in small group counseling to support social-emotional growth.
Community Resources: Students are connected to local social services as needed.
Ongoing Communication: RAP maintains regular communication with parent(s)/guardian and the sending school district to track progress toward each student’s goals.
In accordance with federal requirements, all schools participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and/or School Breakfast Program (SBP) must have a Local School Wellness Policy. These policies support student health and wellness by promoting proper nutrition and physical activity, helping create positive learning environments.
Regular attendance is essential for student success. The Regional Alternative Program follows Illinois law regarding school attendance and outlines clear expectations for excused and unexcused absences. Students are allowed up to 10 excused absences per semester with parent contact; after that, additional documentation may be required. Supports are available for students who struggle with attendance, including counseling, family engagement, and connections to community resources.
